Kaleigh Schrock (born October 17, 1984) is a former professional American ice hockey player, who played the entirety of his career with the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL, captaining the team in his last two seasons.
Playing career
Schrock first played major junior hockey in the North American Hockey League with the Toledo Ice Diggers before committing to a collegiate career with Neumann University where he competed in the lower level Division III in the ECAC West of the NCAA.
After four seasons with the Knights, in which he captained the club in his senior year in 2008–09 to the Division III championship, Schrock signed his first professional contract with his hometown minor league club, the Fort Wayne Komets of the then International Hockey League. In his rookie season, continuing his physical play from college, he scored 20 goals in 76 games and helped the Komets capture the Turner Cup Championship. With an impressive debut season, he was selected as the Komets' rookie of the year.
He followed the club in their application to the Central Hockey League, establishing himself amongst the Komets, collecting the team's "Mr. Hustle Award" in each of his first two seasons as a checking line forward with an offensive touch, while one of the team's perennial penalty minutes leaders.[1]
After claiming the CHL championship in the 2011–12 season, Schrock again remained committed to Fort Wayne in their move to the ECHL.[2] In the 2013–14 season, his fifth with the Komets, Schrock was announced as team Captain. Although totalling his lowest offensive numbers as a professional, he re-signed for a second season as Captain on June 30, 2014.
Upon completing his sixth season with the Komets, in an injury-affected 2014–15 season with 6 points in 40 games, Schrock ended his professional career on July 6, 2015.[3]
