Kaliyur Mannar Srinivasa Chariar
Kaliyur Mannar Srinivasa Chariar (21 December 1899 — 7 May 1983) was a 20th-century astrologer in India.
Chariar came from Kaliyur, a village in the Sathyamangalam taluk in the Erode district of Tamil Nadu. His ancestors were from the town of Mannargudi in the Tiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu. As a Brahmacharya (a child studying the classic texts of Hinduism), he was taught the Vedas and prabandhas (poems set to music) by his grandfather, Azwar Iyengar (who was an scholar in Vedas, prabandas, and astrology). He visited many places in North India during his Brahmacharya, including Pushkar in Rajasthan. During this time, he made many accurate predictions for important people, which won him widespread acclaim. As an only child, Chariar owned 200 acres (810,000 m2) of agricultural land, although he donated most of it to charity by the end of his life.
He established himself as an astrologer in Madras (now known as Chennai), the capital of Tamil Nadu in Southern India, in 1924. His office was a luxurious one, as he rarely visited the houses of client. Many cinema star, industrialists, judges, physicians, politicians, and others consulted him. His consultation fee remained 5 rupees for many years, and he was known for his use of mantras and yantras in astrology.
He lived in the Chennai neighborhoud of T. Nagar in June 1948, living there until his death in 1983. He purchased land there in 1946, and constructed a building that housed his residence and office. Many people offered to build this home for him, in gratitude for his advice, but he declined their assistance.
