Kalungady is one of the biggest villages in Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu, India. It is situated at Vadasery town. Aruguvilai, Puliyadi are the neighbouring villages.
Description
Sambavars are the majority people of this village. In this village, 500 families are living. The majority are Christians, Hindus also live here. Kalungady village has two branches, one is West Kalungady and the other is East Kalungady. West Kalungady is also named as Mela Kalungady and East Kalungady is named as Keezha Kalungady. The Catherine Booth Hospital is situated at Asambu Road, Kalungady.
Village name
Kalungady’s name came from the word Kalungu, which means a small dam. Kalungu is set at the lake end to avoid the breakage of lake walls. Kalungady village is situated at Putheri lake. Thus, it had the name Kalungady.
