Kathra Sundareswarar Temple is a Shiva temple situated at Kanjanagaram in Mayiladuthurai district (previously Nagapattinam district) of Tamil Nadu state in India.[1][2][3][4] Shiva is the main deity and goddess is Thungabalasthanambigai in this temple. Kanjanagaram is the birth place of Manakanchara Nayanar.

Mythical importance[edit]

Veda Vyasa and his son Shuka Brahmarishi are believed to have worshipped the goddess of this temple.[5]

Significance[edit]

This temple place is believed in being the birth place of Lord Kartikeya.[6]

Maintenance[edit]

This temple is maintained under the control of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, Government of Tamil Nadu.[7]

Sub deities[edit]

Durga, Chandikeswarar, Brahma, Metha Dakshinamurti, Nardhana Vinayaka , Selva Vinayaka, Subramania, Nandi and Navagraha are the sub deities in this temple.[8]
