Karrah Herring is a lawyer and served as Indiana's cabinet Chief Equity, Inclusion and Opportunity Officer, appointed by Governor Eric Holcomb in November 2020.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] Previously, she was staff at the University of Notre Dame in her hometown of South Bend, Indiana for 10 years, from 2011 to 2021. At the university, Herring worked as the Director of Public Affairs.[2][3][9]
Herring received her Bachelor's Degree in Communications/Public Relations from Purdue University in 2005. She went on to earn her Juris Doctorate from Valparaiso University in 2011.[1][3]
Personal life
Karrah Herring was born and raised in South Bend, Indiana. She lived there until moving to Carmel, Indiana while pregnant in 2020 to be closer to her government position.[4] She has a husband, Ray Herring, and three children, Bryce, Brianna, and Ja'Mari Herring.[3]
Career
Herring worked in the position of Chief Equity, Inclusion and Opportunity Officer from November 2020 until January 2025, when Governor Holcomb was replaced with Governor Mike Braun.[5][10] Previously, she was staff at the University of Notre Dame in her hometown of South Bend, Indiana from 2011 to 2021. She worked as Consultant, Program Manager, Director and University Title IX Coordinator at the Office of Institutional Equity in the span of her work at the University. Additionally, she worked as ADA and Employment Compliance Program Manager from 2012 to 2014, and Director of Public Affairs from 2018 to 2021.[9][3]
She owns a consulting company called Lucy Mina Consulting, where she works as a speaker and consultant for miscellaneous businesses and partners. Herring also joined the Rotary Club of South Bend to discuss and speak on DEI initiatives.[6][7][11]
Awards
Herring received the "Distinguished Alumni Award" from Purdue University in 2022.[8]
Mayor James Mueller gave Herring the "Key to the City" of South Bend in 2023.[3]
She was named in the Indianapolis Business Journal for both the "Forty Leaders Under 40" and "Civic Leadership" acknowledgements in 2023.[12][13]
