P. Karthikeyan is an Indian politician and an incumbent Member of Legislative Assembly of Vellore, Tamil Nadu. He was born in Vellore on 05 December 1960, He was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly, as a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate from Vellore constituency in the 2016 elections. Previously he was a Municipal Secretary and the first mayor of Vellore Municipal Corporation.
Early life and education[edit]
Hailing from an economically backward section of the society, Karthikeyan had to drop out of school and start working to support his family. Beginning as a mechanic, he built his own rice shop, sound service and other amenities.
Political career[edit]
Keen to be of service to his place of upbringing, Karthikeyan joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in 2000, and served as the Municipal Chairman between 2006 and 2008.
He went on to become the first mayor of the Vellore corporation and served between 2008 and 2011.
Contesting in the 2016 elections[1], he represented DMK and won by a vote share difference of 15.6% over his opposition candidate.

Initiatives[edit]
COVID-19[edit]
Having contracted COVID-19 and being in recovery, Karthikeyan engaged in welfare schemes for the people affected due to the lockdown. Over 15000 families were aided financially and given food packages. Additionally, temple pundits were provided with economic relief.
Water Resources[edit]
To enable efficient desilting of primary bodies, he worked with government officials during the rainy season and cleaning was undertaken to ensure stable supply from the primary sources. To increase access in households, over 84 borewells were installed with storage tanks.
Citizen welfare[edit]
Deploying resources in domains like education, transport and healthcare, he has worked towards the upliftment of the daily lives of the citizens. New bus stops, libraries, community centres, fair price shops and resting sheds were built and opened for the public.
