Muhammad Kashif Shahid (Urdu: محمد کاشف شاہد) (born 31 January 1985), commonly known as Kashif Butt (Urdu: کاشف بٹ), is a Pakistani poet.[1][2][3] He is also a story writer,[4][5][6] critic, and TV host.[7][8] His writings are free from topoi and revolve around his ideological and philosophical circle. Reflections of romance and the bitterness of passing time appear side by side in his writings.[9][10]
Early life
Kashif Butt was born into a Kashmiri tribe in Punjab on 31 January 1985. His father, Shahid Iqbal Butt, is from Wazirabad and served for the Government of Pakistan in the Hazara Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; therefore, Kashif spent his early life in Hazara Division.[11] Kashif Butt began his academic career at F.G. Public High School POF Havelian Cantt in 1990 and completed his postgraduate studies (MSc Organic Chemistry) from Hazara University, Mansehra.[12] After completing his academic courses, he was appointed as a Quality control engineer at "Dewan Salman Fibre Ltd"[13] which is the largest petrochemical plant in Pakistan, with four continuous lines producing 104,000 tons of polyester staple Fibre per annum and two continuous lines producing 27,000 tons per annum of acrylic staple fibre and dyed tow. In 2010, he joined Qarshi Industries (Pvt) Ltd[14], a notable medicinal and food product company in Pakistan. In 2013, he joined Haidri Beverages Pvt Ltd[15] (PEPSICO Bottling Company) as Manager of Food Safety & Quality Control. In a short time, he gained fame among management, colleagues, and subordinates due to his impressive personality. Later, he joined Pak Foods[16] Rawalpindi as Chief Operating Officer. Pak Foods is an industrial group with seven operating units in Rawalpindi and its surroundings. In April 2015, he left Pakistan to pursue higher studies in South Korea.
Literary career
As a poet, Kashif Butt began his career in 1998, while an 8th-standard student; his early poems were published in daily and weekly newspapers. In 2004, he joined Qalam Karwaa'n,[17] a well-known literary organization in Hazara Division at that time. That same year, he began his career as a story writer and columnist. Later, he was elected Press Secretary for the organization in March 2006, and in November 2009, he was elected Senior Vice-President for Qalam Karwaa'n. On 18 March 2012, he was elected the 6th President of Qalam Karwaan in the organization's 13th annual election. However, he soon left the organization due to personality clashes with some members. He also serves as Information Secretary for Bazm-e-Ilm-o-Fun (Hazara Branch) Pakistan. Since November 2005, Kashif Butt has worked as General Secretary for Fehm-al-Qur'an Foundation Trust®, an institute for the scientific, intellectual, and spiritual understanding of the Holy Quran. He has served as editor of the literary page for Daily Shimla, Abbottabad District, Daily Nad-i-Khalq[18] Haripur District, and Weekly Watan Islamabad. He also hosted for the Hindko channel "Shamal TV".[19][20][21] A collection of his Urdu poetry entitled "Khuda Baantt Liya Ha" has been published.[22] The book has been considered[by whom?] an important addition to Urdu literature and has received attention from readers for its style and subject.[citation needed]
