Kate Gibbs (born June 12, 1990 in Seoul, South Korea)[1] is an American swimmer.

Swimming career[edit]

Gibbs began swimming at the age of five, taking after her brother, a swimmer at Old Dominion University. It wasn't until 2004 that Gibbs broke onto the national swimming scene when she broke the 50 Yard Butterfly Record in the S9 Category. Gibbs went on to set many records including a Pan-American Record in the 200m Butterfly.[2] Gibbs was selected to represent the United States at the 2006 World Championships where she qualified for finals in the 100M Butterfly. She also competed at the Rio 2007, capturing the silver medal in the 100 metres (330 ft) Butterfly, and bronzes in the 200m Individual Medley and the 100m Breaststroke. She also helped Team USA bring home the Silver in the 4x100 Medley Relay. Gibbs went on to swim for Washington and Lee University, where she earned a varsity letter as a first-year. [3] She posted a top finish of 8th in the 200 Fly at the ODAC Championship.
