Kathleen Tagg is a pianist, composer, and producer based in New York City. She was a 2014–2015 composition fellow of the Dramatist Guild of America, and a 2017 Con Edison Exploring the Metropolis composer in residence in New York. Tagg is a member of ASCAP, and her works are published by Spotted Kat Music (ASCAP) [1].
Biography
Kathleen Tagg was raised in South Africa and holds both a B.M. and an Honours Degree in Music from the University of Cape Town. She moved to the United States to pursue further education and received a M.M. from Mannes the New School's Mannes School of Music in 2003 and a D.M.A. from the Manhattan School of Music in 2009.[1]
Works
Tagg composes chamber music, orchestral and wind band works, and film and musical theatre scores. Selected works include:
- Apple Heart (2009), evening-length cabaret written with lyricist Sophie Jaff
- Erika's Wall (2010), a full-length musical written with lyricist Sophie Jaff
- Chamber Poetry (2010), written with lyricist Sophie Jaff
- Plek van Goeie Hoop (2014), a commission by Suidoosterfees for the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra and 3 singers
- The Keepers of the Flame (2017), an evening-length large-ensemble work of flexible instrumentation co-composed with David Krakauer
- The Call of The Ram's Horn (2019), a klezmer fantasy for concert wind band co-composed with David Krakauer
- The film score for Minyan (2020)
