Kathy K. Im is an American journalist and philanthropist and current Director of Journalism and Media at the John D. And Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. In this position, she has worked to center racial equity and increase the number of grants awarded to organizations led by and serving communities of color.[1]
Early life and education
Im earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government Studies from Smith College and a Master's in Public Policy from the Harris School of Public Policy Studies.[1]
Career
In 2007, Im was named a Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow.[2]
In 2014, she was a Visiting Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Open Documentary Lab, where she explored interactive documentaries and digital journalism.[2]
In 2021, President Joe Biden nominated Im to serve on the Board of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.[2]
In 2022, Im joined the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of California, Berkeley as a member of its advisory board.[3] She is also currently a member of the advisory board at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy.[4]
