He is an Adjoint Professor at the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Colorado, Denver,[1] USA and a Consultant ophthalmologist at the Montchoisi Clinic, Lausanne, Switzerland. He serves as the Associate Executive Vice President of the World Glaucoma Association[2] and is President of the Swiss Glaucoma Research Foundation.[3] Mansouri is the first ophthalmologist to give a TEDx talk in 2012.
Early life and education[edit]
Mansouri was born in Vienna, Austria, and moved to Lausanne, Switzerland in 2003. He studied medicine in Vienna and Lausanne, obtaining his M.D. degree in 2003. There, he served in the Prevention of Blindness and Deafness program from 2004-2006, working on the Global Elimination of Trachoma. Mansouri completed his ophthalmology residency at the University Eye Clinic, Geneva and the Jules Gonin Eye Hospital, Lausanne in 2009. He obtained a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) degree at the University of Geneva in 2009, followed by a glaucoma fellowship under Prof. Robert N Weinreb at University of California, San Diego, USA.
Career[edit]
Mansouri is an expert in the field of continuous intraocular pressure (IOP) monitoring.[4] He pioneered the clinical development of the first smart contact lens for the continuous measurement of IOP (Sensimed Triggerfish, Switzerland),[5] which gained FDA approval in 2013 as well as the Eyemate intraocular sensor (Implandata AG, Germany).[6] His other research activities include the development of new technologies in the field of glaucoma imaging and surgery.
He has co-authored over 160 peer-reviewed publications and has an h-index of 34 (Google Scholar). He is on the editorial board of the “Journal of Glaucoma”, an associate editor of “Acta Ophthalmologica”, and is a contributing editor to the “International Glaucoma Review”.
He is the Founder and President of the Swiss Glaucoma Research Foundation which supports research and training of ophthalmologists in glaucoma. He directs an active fellowship program which trains candidates from all continents and is a host to fellows from developing countries. As a board member of the Vision for All Foundation, he has been active in humanitarian activities in India and several African countries.
