Prior to that, he was the Vice President of digital media at Disney-ABC Television Group and served as Chief of Staff for Anne Sweeney.[2]

Early life and education[edit]

Estenson was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up in Sacramento, California. He completed a B.A. in political science with honors from St. Mary’s College of California and also attended the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He subsequently earned a Master’s of Education from The Harvard University Graduate School of Education.[3]

Disney-ABC[edit]

Estenson spent seven years at Disney-ABC Television Group as the VP of digital media.[2] During his tenure he oversaw the digital media businesses across Disney's online, on-demand, mobile, broadband and wireless products and worked on Disney Channel Worldwide, SOAPnet and ABC Family (now known as Freeform). He also helped manage the creation of ABC News Now's broadband service.[4]

In 2007, he and his team received a Primetime Emmy® Award for Excellence in Interactive Television Programming for ABC Family’s Fallen alternate reality game.[3]

CNN[edit]

On July 17, 2008 it was announced that Estenson would be joining CNN’s online group as the SVP and GM starting September 2, 2008.[2]"Estenson Joins CNN.com". www.adweek.com. Retrieved 2018-04-15.</ref> While at CNN, he oversaw a major redesign of the website, its first in more than a decade.[5] The new platform was designed to be dynamic and enable readers to follow different CNN reporters and talent.[6]

During his tenure, CNN Digital expanded its footprint by partnering with top social media and online platforms. In 2010, CNN Digital partnered with Vice Media. Through the partnership, CNN.com featured web series produced by Vice's VBS.TV.[7] In 2011, CNN Digital expanded its footprint by acquiring the iPad news reading app Zite.[8] Two years later they launched a new YouTube channel titled “CNN Buzzfeed” to provide news and content from the outlet alongside BuzzFeed’s content.[9] The following year, CNN and Twitter partnered with Dataminer in order to create a news tool for journalists.[10]

On October 16, 2014 TheWrap reported that Estenson was let go as part of ongoing network restructuring.[11]

GoNoodle[edit]

Estenson joined GoNoodle on March 18, 2018, taking over from the company’s co-founder Scott McQuigg.[12] The Nashville based GoNoodle is an educational media and technology company that makes videos for kids.[13]

GoNoodle is available in more than 185 countries and is used by 14 million kids at school and home each month.[14] Per the Nashville Business Journal, “Estenson will focus on broadening awareness of the company, finding new collaborations and creating content that promotes the positive use of technology.”[13]
