Kevin F. Johnson
Kevin Francis Johnson (born July 5, 1955) is a retired high school soccer coach for Kingwood High School in Kingwood, Texas. On February 1, 2010, his record was 460-112-62.[1] At the end of the 2013-14 school year he retired from coaching and teaching.
Early life[edit]
Kevin was born and raised in Batavia, New York, a suburb of Buffalo, New York. He graduated from Notre Dame High School (Batavia, New York) in 1973. He studied at Genesee CC and at Slippery Rock University before eventually transferring to SUNY Brockport where he earned his B.A. in Physical Education in 1978.
His 577 career victories as a boy's coach rank him 2nd all-time in the State of Texas, and 32nd all-time in the nation. His overall boys coaching record stands at 505-118-66 with an overall record of 610-130-72. He is the only coach in Texas to take both a boys and a girls team to the state tournament final four. In 1995 he guided the Lady Mustangs to the State Championship with a record of 29-0. He has also guided the boys to three State Runner-up titles, 1999, 2001, and 2005. He is also a two time finalist for National Coach of the Year.
Coach Johnson is a former President of the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches. He currently is the Southwest Regional Chairman for the National Soccer Coaches Association's National Coach of the Year Committee. He hold a U.S. Soccer National C coaching Licence and an Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, as well as a National Youth Licence from U.S. Soccer and a National Youth Diploma from the NSCAA.
Coach Johnson has also been a regular clinician at the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches state clinic held each fall.
In addition to coaching at Kingwood, Coach Johnson also coached the women's club soccer team at Rice University from 1994-1997.
Awards[edit]
In November 2010 he was inducted into the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches Hall of Honor, as part of its inaugural class.
In 2011 the National Coaches of the Year Selected by NFHS Coaches Association named him as the National Coach of the Year for soccer.[2]
Personal life[edit]
Kevin has two children Jennifer (b. 1980) and Mark (b. 1984). He also has one grandson Liam (b. 2007).
