Khae Rai (Thai: แคราย, pronounced [kʰɛ̄ː rāːj]) is a four-way intersection in Bang Kraso Subdistrict, Mueang Nonthaburi District, Nonthaburi Province, north of Bangkok. It is also the quarter surrounding its location in downtown Nonthaburi.

The name Khae Rai in the past was spelled interchangeably with Khae Lai (แคลาย, pronounced [kʰɛ̄ː lāːj]), but according to the investigation carried out by the Royal Society of Thailand, the correct spelling from the etymological point of view should be Khae Rai. The word khae means the vegetable hummingbird, a small perennial plant that used to grow on both sides of the road here in the past, and with their flowers that are both white and red when looking from a distance, make them look like multicoloured fabrics. Hence the name Khae Rai, which means "surrounded by vegetable hummingbirds".

Khae Rai is the meeting point of the last phase of Ngam Wong Wan Road and Tiwanon Road. The two of them combined around 1947,[1] during that time it was still a three-way junction. In 1983, there was an extension of Ngam Wong Wan Road, Rattanathibet Road, thus making it a four-way intersection.[2]

The area around Khae Rai is regarded as a growing number of real estate and public utilities, including condominiums, residences, government offices, shopping malls, shophouses, as well as elevated mass rapid transit monorail train line, MRT Purple Line, that is served by nearby Nonthaburi Civic Center MRT Station (PP11). In the near future, it will also be the point of departure for the MRT Pink Line and the MRT Brown Line.[2]
