Robert L. Johnson Jr. (August 28, 1976 - January 15, 1997), better known by his stage name "Kilo G," was a gangster rap artist from New Orleans, Louisiana. Kilo G was the first rapper to be signed to the Cash Money Records label and released his debut album in 1992 at the age of fifteen. His sophomore album titled "The Bloody City gained", gained him massive success in 1995. He was shot and killed in New Orleans in 1997.[1]
Biography
Born Robert L. Johnson on August 28, 1976, he was raised in the Algiers, section of New Orleans. While still in high school, began to do music and came in contact with Cash Money Records. Johnson recorded his debut Sleepwalker on that label under the stage name Kilo-G in 1992.[2][3] It sold a few thousand copies. Cash Money teamed with producer Mannie Fresh in 1994. In August of 1995 Kilo G, released his album The Bloody City.[4][5][6]
Death
On January 15, 1997, Kilo G was shot and killed at his home inside the DeGaulle Manor housing complex. According to homicide detectives, Johnson was shot four times in the torso around 4 in the morning in the 2300 block of Murl Street. He was rushed to the hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after.[7]
