Kimberly Nichole is an American singer-songwriter and actress. She came to national attention in 2015 for her competing on season eight of NBC's reality competition series The Voice, placing sixth place.[1]
Early life[edit]
Nichole was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. She started singing as a toddler and learned to play the clarinet at age 10. She starting writing her own songs during her teenage years and pursued a degree in economics and human resources at Georgia's Spelman College.
Artistry[edit]
Nichole grew up listening to gospel and soul music played by her parents. She later got involved in rock'n roll type of music. Because of this, Nichole has often been called "The Mistress of Madness" by several other artists.[citation needed]
Career[edit]
To pursue her career, Nichole moved to New York City. She started performing at the private night club The Box with a band that she had formed.[2] She has shared the stage with several artists including Aloe Blacc and Janelle Monáe. Nichole recorded a nine-track album called Yellow Brick Journey and a four-track EP cover called Rock Ballerina. Because of this, Nichole has been known for her incredible amount of success as an artist with no agents.[citation needed] Nichole was then found by fashion savant Andre Leon, who featured her in Seventeen Magazine. Nichole and her band will release a new album called The Lonely Bones soon.[when?] She has built her career leveraging shows at the Apollo Theater.[3]

Nichole's music has been featured on several television networks including MTV, VH1, BET, LOGO, Lifetime and Showtime.
2015: The Voice[edit]
Kimberly Nichole auditioned for the eighth season of The Voice by singing Tina Turner's "Nutbush City Limits". Both Blake Shelton and Pharrell Williams turned around but Nichole chose Williams as her coach.[4] In the Battle rounds, Nichole faced off against Lowell Oakley, where they sang "Hound Dog" by Big Mama Thornton. Nichole was defeated by Oakley, then "stolen" by Christina Aguilera to compete on her team instead.[5]
In the Knockout rounds, Nichole performed "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free" by Sting against Koryn Hawthorne. Nichole was chosen over Hawthorne, securing her spot in the Playoffs.
In the Live Playoffs, Nichole advanced to the Top 12 by singing "What's Up" by 4 Non Blondes. In the Top 12, Nichole performed The Animals' "The House of the Rising Sun", which peaked at number 3 on the ITunes chart. Nichole advanced to the Top 8 after singing the Etta James hit "Something's Got A Hold on Me". In the Top 8, Nichole sang "Creep" by Radiohead. In honor of Mother's Day, Nichole sang John Mayer's "Free Fallin'" in the Top 6, as well as Michael Jackson's "Dirty Diana". Nichole was placed in the bottom two, along with fellow contestant India Carney. Nichole sang "Seven Nation Army" by The White Stripes for her Instant Save performance but was defeated by Carney, thus, eliminating her from the competition.
Nichole returned to the season finale as one of the sixteen eliminated artists. She sang "Some Nights" and "Carry On" with the Top 20 artists. She also performed "She Talks to Angels" by The Black Crowes along with Brian Johnson, Corey Kent White, Deanna Johnson and finalist Joshua Davis.
