Kishwar Chowdhury is an Australian chef known for competing on MasterChef Australia series 13, finishing in third place.[1][2][3][4][5]

Early life

Chowdhury was raised in a Bengali household and learned cooking from her parents. She is Australian of Bengali heritage—father from Bangladesh (a former freedom fighter), mother from Kolkata, West Bengal.[6]

Career

Kishwar worked briefly in Germany and later spent six years in Bangladesh, where she established a business before returning to Melbourne in 2015.[7] She entered the culinary scene by training under Michelin-starred chef Masahiko Yomoda at Ishizuka, Melbourne, and collaborated with Adam D'Sylva on a modern Australian–Bengali menu at Tonka restaurant.[8] Kishwar became known after competing on MasterChef Australia season 13, finishing in third place.[7][9] She won praise for showcasing traditional Bengali dishes with finesse and authenticity with favorites including khichuri with begun bharta, Bengali patties, and hariyali chicken[10] (with an Australian twist). For the grand finale, her dishes included panta bhaat, accompanied by aloo bhorta and a sardine dish described as “poor man’s food”. She scored 30/30 from the judges for one dish. Her overall score was 114/140, finishing third.[11][1][12]

Personal life

Chowdhury is married and has two children.[13]
