Kleininger Teran Perez (born July 23, 1989) is a Venezuelan professional baseball coach and former third baseman and catcher who is currently the bullpen catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball (MLB).[1]

Career

Teran was born in Maracay, Venezuela.[2] In 2006, aged 16, he was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals as an international free agent. He played for the Cardinals Venezuelan Summer League affiliate for two years,[3] until he moved to the Gulf Coast League to play for another Cardinals affiliate, and the next year moved to the Appalachian League.

In 2011, he played his first and only Minor League Baseball (MiLB) season, in High-A for the Quad Cities River Bandits, though he only played in 3 games.[4] For the 2012 season, Teran was moved to catcher, and spent the year training as a catcher. On November 2, 2012, he elected free agency, and did not play professional baseball in the United States again[5]

After retirement, Teran worked in the minor leagues of the Cardinals organisation in various coaching roles, before in 2025 he was hired as the bullpen catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals,[5][1][6] and is currently also the Spanish interpreter for the Cardinals.[7] He has pitched for Cardinals players in the Home Run Derby, including Albert Pujols[6] and Jordan Walker.[8][9] In the 2025 offseason, Yadier Molina brought Teran with him to be the batting coach for Navegantes del Magallanes.[10]

Personal life

Teran has a wife called Natasha, with whom he has one son.[6]
