Kolawole Waziri Olagboyega is a British-Nigerian academic based in Japan. Olagboyega is currently a Professor of English and Applied Linguistics at Tsuru University, Japan.[1]

Academic career[edit]

In 1994, Olagboyega completed his MPhil. in English and Applied Linguistics from the University of Cambridge.[2] He finished his PhD in English and Applied Linguistics from the University of Sheffield in 2000.[3] In 2003, Olagboyega obtained his PGCE certificate in Post-Compulsory Education and Training from the University of Greenwich.[3]

His research areas include linguistics and language teaching.[4][5][6][7] Some of his published works include "The Effects of Dyslexia on Language Acquisition and Development",[8] "Japanese English: A Descriptive Grammar",[9] "Varieties of Modern English Language" and "The Social Construction of Literacy", a case study of literacy practices in the UK.[10][11]

Olagboyega taught at Akita International University from 2007 to 2014.[12] He served as the Director of English programs and the Director of Language Acquisition Center at Yamanashi Gakuin University until 2018, after which he joined Tsuru University as a Professor of Linguistics.[13] Olagboyega is a Fellow of the Cambridge Commonwealth Society.[3]
