The Komath were and are an aristocratic and landowning Malayali Nair dynasty in Malabar, known for their intermarriage with the Koothali, Kalliat, and Vengalil dynastic houses. Originating as a cadet branch of the Koothali House, the Komath rapidly assured their own success, most prominently under the reign of millionaire Karanavar Komath Gopil Kurup, who invested his million-pound fortune into the Komath dymasty, buidling the celebrated ettuketty family mansion at Ayanzhery known as Komath House.
Govinda Kurup's nephew Komath Krishna Kurup, a celebrated High Court vakeel based in Tellicherry, famously married the runaway heiress to the Vengalil tharavad, siring V.K. Krishna Menon, alongside siring daughter who would respectively marry the Maharaja of Cochin, and the son of a senior prince of the Zamorin's household and the tradiional Karumathil lineage of hereditary prime ministers to the Zamorin.
