Kontrast.at is an Austrian political news blog founded in summer 2016 and owned by the Austrian Social Democratic Parliamentary Group. The medium publishes political, social, and cultural news, analysis, interviews. In addition there are frequently guest contributions, for example by the journalist Paul Mason and the economists Mariana Mazzucato and Stephan Schulmeister.
Reception[edit]
The platform sees itself committed to "collaborative journalism"; under "Dossier" information is collected in cooperation with the readership. Jakob Winter stated in the news magazine profil that Kontrast works with left-wing populist headlines and that the SPÖ follows the "owned media" trend.[1] Political analyst and publicist Peter Plaikner described Kontrast.at a rapidly developing, high-quality medium that has increasingly become an alternative source of information for centre-left supporters. [2] Only SPÖ and FPÖ publish their own online media in Austria.
Circulation[edit]
The distribution of the content is mainly done via social media. On Facebook, Kontrast.at has 145,000 fans, on Twitter 16,200 people follow the portal and 13,100 on Instagram. In terms of the number of shares on Facebook, Kontrast.at ranks fifth among Austrian online media according to a survey by the Spinnwerk agency from August 2018.[3]
International related articles of Kontrast.at are published on the news sharing plattform scoop.me in English language.[4]
