Kotoko Kawamura-Kroesen, known professionally as Kotoko Kawamura (born October 15, 1924), was a Japanese actress. She was best known for her supporting role as Granny in the Academy Award-winning film Memoirs of a Geisha (2005), based on the Arthur Golden novel of the same name.
Life and Career[edit]
Kawamura was born in Kyoto, Japan to parents Michi and Akira Kawamura. She resided in Santa Monica, California for over 40 years before moving to Maui, Hawaii. She was married to Theodore Burton Kroesen and had one daughter with him, Claire Tatsumi Stucklen (née Kroesen). She was a volunteer at Roosevelt Elementary School and The Santa Monica Historical Society. A keen animal lover, she had many pets throughout her life, and loved animals, children, people, and life.
Kawamura began her brief career as an actress between the age of 70 & 80. She was also an accomplished swimmer.[1][2]
Death[edit]
Kawamura died on December 2, 2016 of natural causes in Maui. She was interred at Wailuku Hongwanji Mission Columbarium in Wailuku, Maui County, Hawaii, USA. She is survived by her one daughter, three grandchildren, and her two pets.[3][4][5]
