History[edit]

Otto Krahn started KRAHN Chemie Group in 1909 when he established a trading company of the same name for raw rubber, rubber goods, heavy fabrics and related products in Hamburg. KRAHN Chemie GmbH was spun off from the company in 1972 as part of a restructuring and from then on took over the trading business with chemical raw materials. From 1989, KRAHN Chemie expanded its business scope to include technical ceramics by initially qualifying zirconium oxide as a raw material for use in the dental sector. In 1997, the division added raw materials for the lubricant industry. Starting in 2009, KRAHN Chemie acquired various companies and thus expanded its presence in Europe:

  • KRAHN Chemie Polska Sp. z o.o., with headquarters in Poznan (Poland) was established in 2009.[4]
  • In 2013, KRAHN Chemie acquired ICH Benelux BV (now KRAHN Chemie Benelux BV), based in Amsterdam (Netherlands), including its subsidiaries Technoplan Farbechnik GmbH & Co. KG, based in Bottrop (Germany) and ICH POLAND SP. z.o.o., based in Poznan (Poland).[5]
  • In 2014 KRAHN Chemie acquired the majority stake in Pietro Carini S.p.A, Italy (today KRAHN Italia S.p.A) based in Milan.[6]
  • In 2018, the sales business of French Memolex SAS was acquired and incorporated into the newly founded KRAHN France SAS.[7]
  • In 2019, eMBe Products & Service GmbH (now KRAHN Ceramics GmbH), an additive manufacturer for the ceramics and powder metal industry, was acquired.[8]
  • At the beginning of 2020, KRAHN Chemie GmbH acquired the majority of InterActive S.A., based in Athens (Greece).[9]
  • In 2020, eMBe Products & Service GmbH was renamed KRAHN Ceramics GmbH and bundled the activities relating to technical ceramics. The company headquarters were relocated from Thierhaupten to Hamburg and the company machines and equipment were integrated into the new technology center in Dinslaken.[10]
