Kraken is a virtual currency exchange created by Payward, Inc. The beta version was released in May 2013. Kraken moved out of beta and launched live trading September 9, 2013.

Users can trade USD (Dollar), EUR (Euro), BTC (Bitcoin), LTC (Litecoin), NMC (Namecoin), and XRP (Ripple).[1] Kraken also lets users trade Ven, the previously closed currency of social networking service Hub Culture, for the first time.[2]

Kraken plans to reintegrate Forex-style margin trading, which was previously available in the beta version. Other planned currencies for trade include GBP (British Pound).[3]

Bank of America was froze the account of Payward in November 2013, unlocking it on December 2 after Payward answered questions about their business.[4]
