Kreheľ
Kreheľ is a little widespread surname in Slovakia occurring in Prešov District.
Meaning[edit]
M. Pletešnik write in him Slovensko-nemški Slovar, Prvi del (published 1894):[1]
- krę́helj, hlja – English one deprecated common name for the Pig and boar,
- kréhelj, hlja = kreha – English Greengage (Prunus insititia).
In the second edition of the dictionary Slovenian literary language,[2] extended, from the year 2014 is writed:
- kréheljc – a male of eurasian teal.
History[edit]
The first occurrence of the surname "Krehel" is documented from 1396 in Cluj-Mănăştur (today part of the town Cluj-Napoca, the historical region Transylvania, the country Romania).[3][4]
