Kwame Osei Despite (born 2 February 1962) is a Ghanaian businessman and entrepreneur. He is the CEO of the Despite Group of Companies. He is also the Chief Executive of Despite Group of Companies.[1]
Early life
He was born in Agona Wiamoase in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. He started life as a trader who sold music cassettes, feeding bottles, padlocks and other goods at Dunkwa-Offinso in the Central Region of Ghana. After many years of struggle to make it in life in the village, he migrated to Lagos, Nigeria with his colleagues to search for greener pastures.[2][3][4][5]
Career
After he returned to Ghana, in 1983, with other Ghanaians, from Nigeria due to the political tension in Nigeria, he came with one chain-saw machine, but the machine was crushed by a falling tree on his first business trip.[1] He later started selling cassettes before he ventured into a media company. Peace FM (Ghana) was the first radio and pioneering station which aimed at promoting Ghanaian culture.[1] The radio station used the Akan language which worked, as radio listeners preferred listening to the 104.3 frequency rather than to those who were broadcasting only in the Queen's language.[4]
Personal life
He is married to Aunty Ewurama and Kennedy Osei Asante is the eldest son.[6]
Companies
Mr. Kwame Osei Despite is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Despite Group of Companies; a group of companies which owns four radio stations namely: Peace FM (Ghana), Hello FM, Okay FM and Neat FM, and a local TV station called United Television Ghana (UTV Ghana) [1]
