LAPP is a globally active corporate group in the field of connection technology headquartered in Stuttgart. All shares of the Lapp Holding SE are owned by the Lapp family. The Lapp Group manufactures at 26 international locations and is active in more than 80 countries worldwide.
History
In 1959, Ursula Ida Lapp and her husband Oskar Lapp founded U.I. Lapp KG in Stuttgart to manufacture and distribute Oskar Lapp's invention Ölflex, the first industrially produced flexible control cable with color coding. In 1963, the first own factory was opened, and in 1965 the headquarters — until then the family-owned house in Stuttgart-Vaihingen — was relocated to the nearby Schultze-Delitzsch-Straße, where it remains today.[3] Production of rectangular connectors began in 1966.
In 1979, the first foreign subsidiary was established in the USA. Subsequently, the company developed into a globally operating one and one of the world’s leading providers of integrated solutions and branded products for cable and connection technology.[4] Since around 2010, Lapp has been supplying cables for electric vehicles and has offered charging solutions since 2020 (Lapp Mobility).
Products
The company manufactures products in four product areas: cables and accessories, industrial connectors, system solutions, and communication technology.
In the cables and accessories segment, connection and control cables, drag chain cables, cables for servomotors, temperature-resistant cables, as well as data, LSN, and bus cables are offered. The industrial connectors segment produces rectangular and circular connectors, as well as assembly systems for electrical engineering and communications engineering, measurement/testing and control technology, mechanical engineering, and device technology. Additionally, automation products for Profibus and Interbus applications are included.
The system solutions segment offers customer-specific individual system solutions from development through production to logistics and services. The communication technology segment supplies active network components, industrial firewalls with VPN functionality, as well as other accessories and services (consulting, network design and planning, analysis, and support). Furthermore, industrial video solutions and process monitoring are offered.
The company’s brands include Ölflex (flexible, oil-resistant connection and control cables), Hitronic (fiber optic cables for data transmission), Unitronic (data cables for various applications), Epic (flexible industrial connectors), Skintop (universal cable entry systems), Silvyn (protective hoses and energy chains for cable and wire protection), Fleximark (labeling systems), and Etherline (components and system solutions for active network technology).
Social commitment
The corporate group focuses its social engagement primarily on the field of medical research. In cooperation with the German Cardiac Society, the Oskar Lapp Foundation, founded in 1992, supports young scientists working on research projects in the field of cardiology with scholarships[5] and research awards.[6]
