La Urban Dance Factory

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

La Urban Dance Factory, more known as "La Urban", is a dance school located in Barcelona. Thanks to its history and experience, it has achieved national and international recognition. It specialises in urban dances and is directed by Irene Pallarés and Sarah Coral, two Spanish dancers who are among the best in the country. It also has a large team of professionals, all of whom are highly trained in their styles and constantly learning more.

Apart from seeking apprenticeship and professionalism, it is a school that wants to teach its students how to have fun dancing and how to feel and enjoy the music.

They work on different styles and in different categories: initiation, intermediate, advanced, junior and infant.

Location

It is located in Barcelona, one of the most important cities in Spain. The school is on Rossend Arús street, 13–15, and is about ten minutes from Sants Station.

Styles

As stated in the introduction, the school specialises in urban dances but works with many different styles:

  • New Style: for infant, junior, initiation and two further levels of difficulty.
  • Old School:
  1. Poppin': a style that appeared on the west coast of the USA and fundamentally in Los Angeles during the 1970s. It is based on explosive and broken movements and is so named because it resembles popcorn being cooked.
  2. Lockin': also appeared in Los Angeles during the 1970s and is very expressive and comic. Based on fast and coordinated movements with a "lock" on each one.
  • DANCEHALL: it originated in Jamaica and the Antilles and is danced to ragga music. Based on pelvic movements, as well as corrugated and repetitive ones.
  • Lyrical Jazz
  • JazzFunk: a dynamic way of dancing with a lot of expression and style. Based on strong and energetic movements combined with jazz technique.
  • Krump: a type of clowning based on strong movements centred in the upper body. It is also a positive way to release accumulated anger.

The school has several competition groups which compete in different categories and are directed by different choreographers.
