Laghutrayi is the name given to the three Ayurvedic texts, the Sharngadhar Samhita, Bhavaprakash and Madhava Nidana.[1][2]

Madhava Nidana[3][edit]

Also known as Rugvinischaya or Rogavinischaya. Written by author Madhava around 700 AD. It talks about the causes of illness, pathology, symptomatology and prognosis but it doesnot suggest treatments.

Sarangadhara samhita[4][edit]

Written around 1226, by the author Sarangadhara. It is supposed to be a handbook for the practicing physician. In the first part, the terminologies, weights and measures, time for harvesting medicinal herbs, definitions of pharmacological terms, pulse diagnosis are mentioned. The second part deals with proportions and preparation of medicines. In the last part various therapies such as abhyanga, swedana, nasya, kabala, gandoosha etc are discussed.

Bhava prakasha[5][edit]

It is written by Bhava mishra in 1558. It deals with concepts of causation, symptoms, and cures of illness. In this book, the lists of illness and treatments were brought up to date; for instance, syphilis, which reached India when the portuguese merchant marines began arriving on the subcontinent is mentioned for the first time.
