Lakshya Chawla (born 28 March 1990) is an Indian photographer and filmmaker. He is based in New Delhi and is known for his work in wedding photography and films.
Early life and education
Lakshya Chawla was born in Jalandhar, Punjab, India. He earned a postgraduate degree from the Great Lakes Institute of Management in Chennai. He started working as a photographer in 2011.[1] A 2019 article in The Asian Age explored his move from a business background into photography.[2][3]
Career
In 2013, Chawla founded Shutterdown, a company focused on candid wedding photography and filmmaking. His work has been noticed by Vogue India, which featured Shutterdown in 2019 and included him among photographers and filmmakers in 2022.[4]
In 2017, Shutterdown was shortlisted for the Wedding Filmmaker of the Year at the WeddingSutra Photography Awards.[5] In 2025, he was listed in the DWP Insider Photographer Powerlist for destination wedding photographers in the Asia-Pacific, India, Middle East & Africa regions.[6]
Lakshya Chawla's projects have also appeared in the media. In 2015, he shot a pre-wedding session at the Taj Mahal for a couple from Hong Kong, which was reported by The Indian Express and HuffPost.[7][8] In 2017, he captured a wedding that blended Hindu and Muslim traditions, a story also reported by The Indian Express.[9]
A chapter about Chawla's career is included in the 2021 book Yuva Bharat: The Heroes of Today by Devir Singh Bhandari.[10] The Wire mentioned his work in 2025 in an article about celebrity weddings.[11] The significance of wedding photography in India's creative economy was discussed at the WAVES Summit 2025, an event hosted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.[12]
