Santosh Ram (born 3 November 1979) is an Indian Writer, Director and Producer. He is widely known for his Short films Vartul (2009), Galli (2015) and Prashna (2020) that have been Nominated and Screened at Various Film Festivals around the World .His debutShort Film Vartul which was screened at over 56 National and International film festivals including 11th Osian's Cine fan Film Festival, New Delhi (India), International Documentary and Short Film Festival Of Kerala and 17th Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival (Canada), winning thirteen awards.
Early life and background[edit]
Ram was born on 3 November 1979 in Dongershelki, District Latur, Maharashtra. Ram grew up in a middle-class family in Udgir, Maharashtra, India. His father Ramchandra Pundlikrao Marewad worked as a teacher in Government School and his mother Chandrakala Ramchandra Marewad is a housewife. He did his early schooling in Lal Bahadur Shastri High School in Udgir.Santosh Ram developed an early interest in cinema through television. He grew up watching Hindi and Marathi Films. Due to his desire to become a filmmaker he moved to Pune in 2001. Eventually he joined a theatre group Samanvay in pune and attended some theatre workshops one of them was conducted by Pandit Satyadev Dubey .He got very much influenced by theatre people. But he was much more interested in motion picture and it was much more attracting him. He has done his post Graduation in English literature from Modern College, Pune. He developed an appreciation for cinema while studying literature.He watched all the classical and Art Movies at National Film Archives of India , Pune . Santosh Ram Assisted Fourteen Student Projects at Film and Television Institute OF India , Pune . He consider Himself a Canteen Pass out alumni of Film and Television Institute of India , Pune . Santosh Ram got very much influenced by his father and the childhood he spent in Marathwada Region. He wants to tell the stories from his region . Vartul has got many autobiographical elements like the small village life, the home and mother's guidance .
Career[edit]
Ram began his filmmaking career by writing and directing shorts. His Debut Marathi language short Film Vartul he shot on 35mm film with some Friends as crew member.Vartul (2009) screened at over 56 National And International film festivals including 11th Osian's Cinefan Film Festival 2009, New Delhi, India, 3rd International Documentary and Short Film Festival Of Kerala, 2010, India, Third Eye 8th Asian Film Festival 2009, Mumbai, India,and 17th Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival 2013 (Canada), winning thirteen awards. His second short film Galli (2015) screened in 13 National and International film festivals. His Latest film Prashna ( 2020) is shortlisted for Filmfare short Film Awards 2020 and Nineteen Film Festivals all over the World , Winning Twelve Awards .
In 2009, Ram founded his own production company Vivek Chitra Productions . It is based in Pune . Vivek Chitra Productions has produced short Films that have been Nominated and Screened at Various Film Festivals around the World . Number of other projects by Santosh Ram and emerging Independent Films are currently in development and Production including three features by Santosh Ram .
