Larissa Ashley Merritt (born September 26, 1989), better known as Larissa Dubois is an American singer and songwriter. In 2013, Larissa and her mother (Sophia) started indie record label, Gypsy Diva.[1] Her unique raspy contralto voice is a mix of light rock and R&B.[2][3][4]
History[edit]
Larissa Dubois was born on September 26, 1989 in Dunedin, FL and raised in Clearwater, FL.[5] Her mother is African American and her father is German, Polish, and English. She has an older sister, and two younger brothers. Growing up her family would have their own talent shows in the living room.[6] Larissa Dubois started at the age of five, spending hours listening to singers like Mary J. Blige, Aretha Franklin,Gladys Knight and Toni Braxton.[7] When Larissa was younger she snuck Gladys Knight’s Greatest Hits cd from her grandmother’s house, so she could play it every day after school.[8]
Larissa moved to Los Angeles California in 2014, with her Momanager and two brothers to pursue her singing career. A co-worker at a retail store gave her the number to songwriting duo The Pensouls (Davion Farris and Teyonie Harts), who wrote Trey Songz "All We Do".[9] In April 2015, Larissa released her debut EP "This Is Love", co-written by The Pensouls and Larissa.[10] After the release of her EP Critics such as SoulTracks compared her sound to Mary J.Blige and Toni Braxton, and even said "she has skills that remind us of some of the great female singers of the past two decades."[11] May 25, 2015 Larissa was named "The Artist Co-Sign" of blogger The Mannye Corner.
On April 6, 2015 SingersRoom founder, creator, and editor wrote an article"Discovered: Larissa Dubois This Is Love."[12]
The week of May 12, 2015 Larissa Dubois's single "Words No Good", off of her EP "This Is Love" debuted on Radio Phoenix. June 16, 2015 "Words No Good" went into heavy rotation and charted at #12 on Radio Phoenix.[13] June 7, 2015 The Dalton Green Show announced that Larissa would be interviewed live on Radio Phoenix. The interview was also broadcast on TuneIn a worldwide online radio station, KVIT 90.7FM, and 92.7 FM.[14]
June 21, 2015 Larissa performed at Make Music Day in Santa Monica, CA and the Hollywood Hard Rock Cafe.[15][16][17]
Larissa ranked #35 on the r&b charts on The Deli Magazine.[18]
