Larry Aceves
Larry Aceves (born circa 1944) is the former Superintendent of the Franklin-McKinley School District and of the Alum Rock Union School District, and was the losing candidate for the post of California State Superintendent of Public Instruction in the general election of 2010.
Biography[edit]
Aceves is a retired School Superintendent. He received his MA in Education, with an emphasis in early childhood education from San Diego State University.[1] From 1974-1979 Aceves was a bilingual teacher at Bayside Elementary School in the South Bay USD (union school district), and was also Principal at Imperial Beach Elementary School in South Bay USD. In 1989-1991 he served as Deputy Superintendent in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District. Aceves in 1991-1994 was the Superintendent for the Alum Rock Union School District, and also served as Superintendent of the Franklin-McKinley School District until 2010 when he retired to run in the State of California for Superintendent of Public Instruction.[1]
State Superintendent of Public Instruction campaign and election[edit]
Aceves was the top vote-getter in the primary election in June 2010, with 19.2% of the vote, and faced Tom Torlakson (who received 18.6%).[2]
In the general election on November 2, 2010, Aceves received 3,469,665 votes, 45.1% of the total, and was defeated by Tom Torlakson, who received 4,214,449 votes, 54.7% of the total.[3]
