Lashkar is a subcity in Gwalior Metropolitan region in the India state of Madhya Pradesh. It lies 5 km from the Old city of Gwalior. It is one of the three major metropolitan areas of Gwalior city, i.e., Morar Subcity, Lashkar Subcity, and Old Gwalior. It is usually referred to as the new town of Gwalior because of its modern infrastructure, wide roads, and modern amenities.
Demographics
As of 2011[update] India census,[1] Lashkar had a population of 245,852. Males constitute 55% of the population and females 45%. Lashkar has an average literacy rate of 78%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 87%, and female literacy is 69%. In Lashkar, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Lashkar has a number of entertainment zones. Phoolbagh is the centre of Gwalior city, which is a part of Lashkar, and it is famous for political activities. Maharaj Bada

Gwalior Zoo
Gwalior Zoological park, popularly known as "Gwalior Chidiyaghar," is situated in Lashkar and is one of the major picnic spots in the city. It is situated behind Phoolbagh.
Ambedkar Park
One of the busiest parks in the city, situated near Deen Dayal City Mall. It is one of the favourite picnic destinations for children.
Deen Dayal City Mall
Popularly known as DD Mall, it is the biggest mall in Gwalior and also one of the biggest in MP.[where?] Many international outlets like Dominos Pizza, McDonald's, The city Food Court, Cafe Coffee Day, Reebok, Lee, and some famous national supermarkets like Big Bazaar, Reliance Trend, etc., are situated in DD Mall. Pizza Hut is also situated beside DD Mall.
Origin of name
Lashkar is a Persian word meaning army. During the period of the British in India, as this was originally the camp, and later the permanent capital, of the Scindia dynasty of Gwalior state. Lashkar was the capital of Madhya Bharat from 1950 to 1956.
