Last Rites, formerly Metal Review, is a music blog focusing primarily on heavy metal music including critical reviews, feature articles, and interviews.

History[edit]

In 2001 Matt Brown created Metal Review, a music blog with the tagline "the site that provides you with insightful and focused reviews with the intention to steer you to the finest metal for your dollar." [1] The site featured music reviews, news, mp3 downloads, and a forum for music discussion. The forum helped foster a sense of community and some of its active members went on to write for the blog.[2]

In December 2012 the editorial staff renamed the blog to Last Rites and moved it to a new domain address, lastrit.es.[3]

The forum component of the website was removed in March 2013. As a result, a Facebook group page, Last Rites/MR Forum Community, was created to fill the void.

Content[edit]

As of January 2015 Last Rites contains over 7,400 album reviews and over 900 original feature articles and interviews. It has also served as the host for several pre-release album streams for Metal Blade Records.[4][5][6]
