Laurence Claude Baker is an economist. He is Professor and Chair of the Department of Health Research and Policy at Stanford University, the Bing Professor of Human Biology, Professor (by courtesy) of Economics at Stanford University, Fellow of the Stanford Center for Health Policy, and Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research.
Career[edit]
Baker is a past recipient of the ASHE medal from ASHEcon ("given to an economist age 40 or under who has made the most significant contributions to the field of health economics") and the Alice Hersch Award from AcademyHealth. Baker was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2020 for “contributions on consequences of rapid health care technology adoption, the importance of physician practice organization for costs and outcomes, the proliferation of out-of-network billing, and physician gender-based income disparities.” He received his B.A. from Calvin College, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from Princeton University.[1]
