LeanIX (the name stands for "Lean Information Exchange") is a software vendor that provides tools and services in the areas of Enterprise Architecture and Application Portfolio Management for small, medium and large enterprises. The company's headquarters is in Bonn and it has a subsidiary in the US with an office in Boston, MA. LeanIX is mentioned in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Architecture Tools 2019 as a Visionary.[1]

History[edit]

LeanIX was founded by Jörg Beyer and André Christ in 2012. Prior to founding LeanIX, Jörg Beyer and André Christ have both worked in various IT Management Positions i.e. as CIO at Deutsche Post.[2] In the first 3 years the company was bootstrapped and grew without external funding thanks to the first product "LeanIX" which was first released in October 2012.[3] In February 2015 Capnamic Ventures and Iris Capital invested USD 2.5 Mio (EUR 2.2 Mio) in a Series A financing round.[4][5] In 2018, Jörg G. Beyer retired as Managing Director, André Christ stays as sole CEO.[6]

LeanIX raised $30 million in December 2018 in a round led by Insight Venture Partners.[7]

Product and Use Cases[edit]

Since its founding the company focusses exclusively on providing software. The product "LeanIX" is used by customers as a web-based information platform, to store information about the IT applications and architecture of a company. The company reports that leanIX is being employed by media, insurance, logistics, energy, manufacturing and e-commerce enterprises with anywhere between 100 and 100,000 employees. Customers include Axel Springer SE, Haworth, Inc., Helvetia Insurance, Kühne + Nagel, RUAG, RWE, and Zalando.[8]

As one major use case the market leading publishing company in Germany, Axel Springer, describes the usage of LeanIX as part of their Digital Transformation, where the organization is building a Bi-modal IT architecture to support both traditional IT and fast IT.[9] As another use case, Zalando uses LeanIX as a central platform for their Enterprise Architecture in an environment, where information about many Microservices are gathered automatically and injected into the LeanIX platform using the open REST API.[10]

The product is available as Software as a Service in the Cloud. In September 2015 the company received a data privacy certificate.[11]

Partners and Integrations[edit]

LeanIX has a global network of partners in order to provide specialised support in the areas of Integrations and Consulting. The company has a partnership program in place to train partners and give them access to knowledge and resources, certified partners include for example Enzyme Consulting based in Spain.[12] The Berlin based company Signavio was one of the first out-of-the box integrations with their product for Business Process Management.[13] Besides other integrations with tools like Jira or Confluence, LeanIX has a partnership with OneLogin for Single-Sign On via SAML.[14]

Customers can build their own integrations using Open Source SDKs for Java, PHP, Python or C#.

Industry Recognition[edit]

LeanIX is mentioned in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Architecture Tools 2015 as "out-of-the-box, affordable, cloud-based EA tool especially suitable for midsize and smaller organizations".[15]

Companies from different industries have written testimonials about LeanIX in the Gartner Peer Insights, mentioning LeanIX as "Great portfolio management tool with some APM features".[16]
