The **Leatherman Harriers Sunday Runners**—often shortened to **“Sunday Runs”**—is a community trail-running club based in northern Westchester County, United States. The group hosts free, volunteer-led trail runs every Sunday at 8 a.m., typically in Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Mountain Lakes Park, and other preserves in Westchester, Putnam and Fairfield Counties.[1]

Westchester Magazine lists the Harriers among “Westchester’s top running clubs,” and the regional news outlet *North Salem Post* ranks the club’s Thanksgiving-weekend “Fat Ass Run” as one of the county’s best holiday trail events.[2]

History

Regular Sunday trail runs began informally in late 2010 as training meet-ups for the Leatherman's Loop 10 km race.[3] Founder **Lee Willett**, an ultramarathon runner and designer, announced routes on a WordPress blog and social media. Weekly attendance grew from fewer than ten runners to 40–60 on peak weekends.[4]

Activities

  • **Weekly runs:** year-round outings of 5–15 mi (8–24 km) with pace groups ranging from “Rookie Runners” to “Cobweb Crew.”[1]
  • **Holiday “Fat Ass Run”:** a free, untimed, multi-loop event staged the Sunday after Thanksgiving; the 2024 edition offered three start waves and drew over 100 participants.[2]
  • **Race support:** Members volunteer at the **Raven Rocks Run**, **Run the Farm 5 Miler**, and the **Sarah Bishop Bushwhack**, among other local trail races.

Recognition

  • Trail Runner Magazine* profiled the club in its 2017 East-Coast trail-club roundup, noting its scenic routes and inclusive ethos.[5]
