Lefter Koxhaj (Albanian: Leftej Koxhaj; Macedonian: Лефтер Кочај, 22 September 1969 – 7 August 2001), or better known as Komandant Teli, was an army commander in the KLA during the Kosovo War of the late 1990s. He was born in Berat, Albania, and later he joined the National Liberation Army and fought in the 2001 insurgency in Macedonia[1]
Biography[edit]
Koxhaj was born in Berat, Albania and he fought in the Kosovo Liberation Army and the Liberation Army of Preševo, Medveđa and Bujanovac and later he joined the National Liberation Army.[2] He got killed in his sleep along with his whole unit near Skopje which is known as the Skopje police raid. At around 1 a.m, him and his unit were sleeping in the Gazibaba district of Skopje when around 600 Macedonian Policemen surrounded his house and started shooting him and his unit without a warning.[3] Right before the Ohrid Agreement got signed, some NLA militants who were Koxhaj's friends decided to get revenge for him and ambushed a Macedonian unit which would be known as the Karpalak ambush.[4]
