LegalOn Technologies (formerly LegalForce Inc.) is a Japanese legal technology company that develops software for contract analysis and management, including AI contract review tools.[2] Founded in Tokyo in 2017, the company expanded to English-language markets in 2022 and has a U.S. headquarters in San Francisco.[3] In October 2025, the Financial Times identified LegalOn as one of six companies pushing the legal world into the AI era and reported that it makes contract review software for more than 7,000 companies and law firms.[4]

History

LegalOn was founded in Tokyo in 2017 by lawyers Nozomu Tsunoda and Masataka Ogasawara, initially operating as LegalForce and focusing on automated contract review.[5] In 2022, SoftBank’s Vision Fund led a ¥13.7 billion (about $101 million) Series D investment in the company.[6][7] In July 2025, LegalOn raised $50 million in a Series E led by Goldman Sachs Growth Equity, and multiple outlets reported a collaboration with OpenAI on legal AI agents.[8][9][10]

Products

Trade‑press reporting describes LegalOn’s software as applying machine learning and natural language processing to contract analysis, with features for AI contract review and editing.[11] In 2025, the platform added “My Playbooks,” which lets organizations apply their own review standards during AI‑assisted contract review.[12] In July 2025, outlets reported an expansion into basic matter‑management tools such as intake and request tracking.[13][14]

Operations

In 2025, the Financial Times reported that LegalOn’s contract review software was used by more than 7,000 companies and law firms worldwide and noted that the company had raised roughly $200 million in total funding.[15][16]

Industry recognition

The Financial Times featured LegalOn among six companies “pushing the legal world into the AI era,” selected by an external panel of experts.[17]
