The Energy Recovery Plant in Lerwick provides hot water for the Lerwick District Heating Scheme which feeds about 1000 consumers mainly domestic dwellings. It is operated by Shetland Heat Energy and Power Ltd (SHEAP) and is located adjacent to the Lerwick Power Station. Peak output is 7MW of thermal energy. The plant burns waste from Shetland, Orkney and offshore to generate heat. Approximately 22,000 tonnes per are used.
