Letters From The Colony[edit | edit source]

Letters From The Colony is a Swedish Progressive Death-Metal Band formed in Borlänge in 2010.[1] The name "Letters From The Colony" comes from a Swedish folksong "Brev från kolonien" by Cornelis Vreeswijk The five-man band consists of In Mourning (band)s bass player Tterrab Dys, on guitar. October Tides drummer Jonas Sköld, on drums. October Tides bass player Johan Jönsegård on second guitar. Alexander Backlund on vocals and Emil Östberg on bass.[2] Critics describes Letters From The Colony a mix between Opeth, Meshuggah, Gojira and Sikth.[3] Since 2010 Letters From The Colony has released 2 demos, before they released their debut album "Vignette" via Nuclear Blast Records.[4] Letters From The Colony has their own studio "Nailvillage", it was there they recorded the album Vignette.[5] Alexander Backlund did the mixing on that album and Jens Bogren did the mastering.[6]

Lineup changes[edit | edit source]

Letters From The Colony have had some lineup changes during the self-titled EP and Galax EP. Jonas Sköld (drummer) played guitar from the beginning of the band, but in 2013 when Hans left the band, Jonas took over as a drummer.[23] Same goes to Johan Jönsegård (guitar), he played bass between 2012-2015.[24] Alexander Backlund have been a friend to the band a long time, he and Johan Jönsegård had a band toghether before Letters From The Colony called Among The Debris.[25] Alexander mixed and mastered the Self-titled EP and Galax EP before he joined the band in 2014.[26]

Nailvillage[edit | edit source]

Nailvillage is the studio that Letters From The Colony recorded the album Vignette. The studio is located somewhere in Borlänge Sweden and it started in 2014.[27] Tterrab Dys/Sebastian Svalland bought a whole studio in equipment from his former neighbour Tommy Tägtgren (Peter Tägtgrens brother).[28] When Alexander joined the band, the recording process of Vignette started.[29] Alexander had worked in studio before, he ended up producing and mix the Vignette album.[30] Alexander and Tterrab recorded some other artists after that Vignette was recorded, bands like: Dödsrit, Antarktis, The Nightime Project, 1914.[31] Nailvillage is now a recording studio that Alexander works in, pre-production and rehearsal for Letters From The Colony.[32]
