"Life Moves On" is a song by American singer-songwriter Finneas. It was released by OYOY on February 9, 2018, as a standalone single. Finneas wrote and produced the song by himself. An acoustic track, the song's lyrics are about how life goes on after a couple breaks up and how they feel.

Background and compostion[edit]

"Life Moves On" was written and produced solely by Finneas.[1] It was released for digital download through his record label OYOY on May 3, 2018.[2] Nicole Almeida of Atwood Magazine described the track's genre as an acoustic ballad and that his future song “College” seems like the sequel to “Life Moves On”.[3]

Lyrically, the song features how life goes on after a breakup and how the couple “always had a way with people, a way of letting them leave. The lyrics includes: “My hands could be the church to your fingers’ steeple/But you talk so mean/She said 'you know I love you'/I said 'remind me'.”[4] The chorus picks up on a positive note but Finneas doesn't know if the relationship will get better: “Life moves on/The way life does/But some things are prettier/The way life was/Before we gave each other love, gave each other love/Before we gave each other love, love/And broken arms.”[4] The song ends Finneas being confused and if he is truly in love: “Life moves on/The way life does/But some things are prettier/The way life was/Before we gave each other up.”[4]

Critical reception[edit]

Danielle Holian of Pure M Magazine commended the lyrics and instrumentation, saying "the tender and beautiful song showcases his creativity in a sensual, amazing and breathtaking way. He keeps on getting better with his sincerity which is attractive with his softness and empowering performance."[4]
