Lifelong Anonymity

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Script error: No such module "AfC submission catcheck". In the United Kingdom, lifelong anonymity is an exceptionally rare legal protection some convicted criminals (or their close relatives) are afforded. By court order, they are given a new legal identity which would be a crime to publicly compromise, lasting the remainder of their lives. Such measures are only granted where there is a high chance they will become victims of vigilante murders. In all cases thus far, this has been because of the highly publicised nature of the crime in the national media, and the percieved heinousness of the criminal activity. Below are the current cases where such an order has been granted:

1968: Mary Bell, aged 11 strangled a 4 year old boy to death, then 2 months later, she strangled a 3 year old boy to death [1].

1993: Jon Venables (age 10) and Robert Thompson (age 10) abducted, tortured, and killed a 2 year old boy. [2].

2002: Maxine Carr (age 26) provided a false alibi for double child murderer Ian Huntley [3].

2009: (Unnamed Edlington Brothers) aged 10 and 11 tortured 2 children and were convicted of grievous bodily harm. [4].

2014: (2 unnamed teenagers) aged 13 and 14 tortured Angela Wrightson in her home ultimately killing her. [5]
