Mussie Sheikh (born 8 October 1994), known by his stage name Lil Mussie, is a New Zealand hip hop recording artist and philanthropist. He is the founder and current trustee of a charitable foundation known as The Bread Charity which helps children living in poverty between New Zealand and Los Angeles.[1][2][3] [4][5]

Early life and education[edit]

Sheikh was born in Gisborne, New Zealand, a small city on the East Coast of New Zealand. He attended Ilminster Intermediate and then secondary school Gisborne Boys' High School.[6] Sheikh holds a honors bachelor's degree in chemistry from The University of Auckland. [7][8]

Music[edit]

Mussie has a history of being musically involved playing the drums and piano since a young child.[9][10] He first began rapping while attending Gisborne Boys' High School and owes his inspiration to Kendrick Lamar.[11] His debut single released in early 2020 and detailed his life and mission to make the world a better place. In August 2020 he worked with Kanye West's team on his single 'On Me'.[12][13][14] The single features notable Cleveland Rapper King Chip (also known as Chip Tha Ripper).[15] The engineering of the song production and engineering was done by 4 time Grammy winner Anthony Kilhoffer. [16][17]

Philanthropy[edit]

Sheikh donates to children through the Bread Charity which operates between Los Angeles and Auckland.[18][19][20] The foundation helps to provide children from struggling backgrounds with mentoring and appropriate clothing. He has also started free musical studios for children in low socio-economic neighborhoods.[21][22][23][24] The foundation runs supercar events as fundraisers. [25]

In 2020 during COVID-19, Mussie donated to families in need. Joined by UFC Fighter Shane Young, the two competed in an online Call Of Duty battle. Mussie having lost donated a sum of money to a family in need.[26][27][28][29]

In 2021 Sheikh established a new musical studio for children in Los Angeles attending Edwin Markham Middle School. [30] [31][32][33].[34] During the same year a musical studio was also started in Auckland, New Zealand.
