Lindsey Chiswick
Lindsey Chiswick is a British police officer who is the Director of Intelligence at the Metropolitan Police and the National Police Chiefs’ Council Lead on Facial Recognition.
Career
Lindsey Chiswick joined the Metropolitan Police in 2018.[1][2] She is the National Police Chiefs' Council Lead on Facial Recognition.[3] She is an advocate for the use of technology to enhance public safety at reduced costs.[1][4] Facial recognition was developed for use in the Metropolitan Police with South Wales Police and the National Physical Laboratory.[5] Chiswick proposed that facial recognition technology could be used in transport hubs, football grounds and criminal activity hotspots.[5] She stated that the trust of the public was vital for the system.[6]
In 2025, Chiswick explained that live facial recognition had been used in 1,000 arrests over the course of a year, with over 25% being for violence against women and girls.[7] A report released by Metropolitan Police found that 85% of Londoners were in favour of using LFR, and that the false alert rate was 0.0003% after three million faces had been scanned.[7] The pressure group Resistance Kitchen described Chiswick's claims about the false alert rate in Policing Insight online magazine as delusional.[8] LFR was deployed at the 2025 Notting Hill Carnival, with over half of the arrests being registered sex offenders.[7]
