Linus von Castelmur (born 7 January 1957 in Basel) is a Swiss historian and ambassador.
Secretary general of the Bergier commission[edit]
In 1997, after becoming head of the FDFA's historical service, von Castelmur was released to become secretary general of the Bergier commission, whose mandate was to investigate the volume and fate of assets moved to Switzerland before, during, and immediately after the Second World War.[1][2] He held that position until 2001.[3]
In 2008, von Castelmur was appointed ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, residing in Kinshasa, where he worked from November 2008 to March 2012.[4] In 2011, he was appointed ambassador to Syria by the Swiss Federal Council. Due to the onset of the civil war and the closure of the embassy in Damascus, he was never able to take up his post. At the end of 2011, he was again appointed ambassador, this time to India, a position he held from March 2012 to July 2016.[5] In September 2016, he became ambassador to South Korea.[6]
