Lipo-flavonoid
Lipo-flavonoid (also lipo-flavonoid plus) is a dietary supplement created in 1961 by Smith, Miller, and Patch, which is marketed on the Internet and in television commercials. The manufacturer, Clarion Brands, claims that it improves circulation in the inner ear,[1] as a means of combating ringing in the ears.[2]
Lipo-flavonoid has not been approved by the FDA to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.[3] There is no good evidence that it is effective against Meniere's disease, hearing loss, or ringing in the ears.[4][5] There have not been any random controlled trials of Lipo-flavonoid for any purpose in the medical literature.[6]
Composition[edit]
Lipo-flavonoid is a concentrated extract of lemon peel. It is composed principally of ascorbic acid (vitamin C), eriodictyol glycoside also called eriocitrin (lemon flavonoid, a natural yellow food coloring found in lemon peel), choline, and inositol. It also contains a small amount of B vitamins (B6, B12, niacin, riboflavin, thiamine, and pantothenic acid) and methionine.[7]

[This article only states how it is marketed, however it should be known that lipoflavanoids are simply plant steroids. This is what inspired the thought that they will help with hearing loss, as steroids do so. However, plant steroids do not work in the human body, which is why it is not FDA evaluated. This product is inert in the human body and that is why it is able to be sold as a vitamin.]

Although dietary supplement manufacturers must register their facilities with FDA, they are not required to get FDA approval before producing or selling dietary supplements.
