Lisa Michelle Axelrod is an American filmmaker and political strategist currently residing in Broward County, Florida, USA.

Early life[edit]

Lisa M. Axelrod was born in Shaker Heights, Ohio on September 23, 1967 to Max M. Axelrod and Patricia Agnes Donohue Carbone-Axelrod. Lisa graduated from Shaker Heights High School at 16 and subsequently worked as a photo journalist for “The Iron Planet” (forerunner to The Alternative Press)[1] and the famed Record Revolution[2] until accepted at Arizona State University in 1985 where she continued working in the music industry as a bartender and booking agent for The Mason Jar, a notable 1980s rock club in Phoenix, Arizona.[3] In January 1986 she transferred to Mount St. Mary’s Los Angeles and graduated in 1990 with a BA.[4]

After competing in the Miss Teen Ohio pageant at age 15, Axelrod continued her modeling and acting career throughout the 1980s, appearing in Star Magazine's "worst dressed" list, Playboy Magazine,[5] and cult films such as Click: The Calendar Girl Killer,[6] Roadhouse,[7] and The Decline Of Western Civilization II: The Metal Years.[8] In 1989 a car accident on the Sunset Strip nearly killed her and ended her acting career.

In the 2010s, Axelrod completed her Masters Degree is Educational Psychology from Pepperdine University[9]. In 2018 Axelrod began work on her PhD in Media Psychology, specializing in politics and propaganda at Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara.[10] She is concurrently studying Artificial Intelligence at an MIT/Sloan extension program.[11]

Political career and activism[edit]

Axelrod worked for the Clinton/Gore Campaign in Broward County Florida in 1992, the Gore/Lieberman Campaign in Lake County Ohio in 2000, and the Kerry/Edwards Campaign in Lake County, Ohio in 2004. She was the Vice President of Young Democrats of Hawaii[12] during the Obama/Biden Campaign in 2008. In 2016 she worked celebrity outreach in Los Angeles for the Sanders Campaign. She is one of the founding members of the political club “Bernie’s Secret Avengers”[13] and “Bernie’s Diner”,[14] through which created two online Bernie Sanders 2016 Campaign Public Service Messages.[15][16] She also produced visual media supporting the 2016 “Up To Us” political campaign[17]. In 2016, she was elected as the DNC as delegate from California 29 and was an appointed “alternative delegate” for California 39 to the state party.[18]

In 2015 she founded “The Professional Woman”, an online Los Angeles-based national career networking and job group for women, helping over 13,000 women gain access to job listings and temporary employment.[19]

In 2017, Axelrod was misdiagnosed with lymphoma, when in actuality her breast implants had ruptured, causing silicone toxicity and debilitating illness. This began her activism with The US House Act HR-2164 (medical device safety act of 2017) to protect women from class 3 medical devices.[20] In 2017 she created a YouTube series called “Battling Back” about alternatives treatments as she tried to restore her health.[21]

Axelrod saved several pet tigers from being euthanized at an Ohio exotic animal zoo in 2000 facilitating them being moved to an animal sanctuary.[22]
