Lisa Taraki

Lisa Taraki is a Palestinian journalist, teacher and sociologist. She is associate professor of sociology at Birzeit University in the West Bank.[1] Taraki is the co-founder of Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel, a campaign that advocates for academic and cultural boycotts of Israel until it stops what the campaign sees as violations of the Palestinians' human rights.[2]

Taraki was born in Afghanistan to an American mother and Afghan father. She came to the U.S. after having completed secondary school in Kabul where she met her Palestinian husband. In 1976 they decided to move to Ramallah in Palestine and she took up a position at Birzeit University. Taraki has one child.[3]
